FMEA has been commonly used as a powerful tool for the design for reliability, the methodology of FMEA process can also be applied to firmware system validation and the test case design. Comprehensive understanding the critical function and the potential failure modes are keys to a successful firmware test plan development and test cases design. By integrating FMEA into firmware testing process, the efficiency and effectiveness of the firmware validation process can be intensely improved. In this presentation, the author will introduce the innovative test development methodology for the firmware system validation process. The FMEA is implemented into test plan development and detail test cases design, the simplified FMEA process dramatically improve the structure of the test plan for sufficient test cases design, e.g. reduce unnecessary test cases to save testing time. The failures identified during the test are reported and evaluated by team for effective control plan which lead to corrective actions. This new process significantly reduced testing time and ensure to the production released with higher quality.
