Availability is the (Probabilistic) performance measure concerned with assessing a maintained system or device with respect to its ability for being used when needed. We will overview how Availability is measured under its different (inherent, achieved and operational) definitions, via several methods (theoretical and practical), using both statistical and Markov approaches. We will also overview the case where, implementing redundancy, we allow the system to operate in a degraded state. Finally, we will discuss ways of improving Availability. And we will provide numerical examples and comparisons of the cases presented.Learning Objectives:�1. Understanding Availability from a practical standpoint1.
